The Ladies of Hoopnotica

The Scoop

We are grateful to have received so much press coverage this month- scenes of First Lady Michelle Obama hooping were all over the news, and everyone seemed impressed with her prowess “At a fair to encourage children to exercise and eat heathily, the U.S. First Lady, 45, managed an impressive 142 swivels before her hoop hit the ground.”

HoopMamma hooped it up on Dr. Oz! She and several fellow  hoopers showed him some moves and really rocked it out.

Hooping “burns 600 to 800 calories per hour. It’s really intensive cardio. People are always surprised how sore they are the first few times they do it,” said Jenny Carr who was recently profiled in the Bangor Daily News.

Hoopnotica Certified Teacher Stephanie Donlon was profiled in the OC Register. When asked if she thinks hula hooping could bring world peace, she said: "Actually I think it can. You can't be unhappy in a hula hoop."

I saw an ad for a Hoopnotica class and was SO excited to go. That’s all it took. Now my friends and I love going to the park or the beach with our hoops and getting people to join us. Everyone always has so much fun from the kids to the little old ladies. Hooping has definitely brought a lot of joy to my life. My neighbors all think I’m a bit eccentric, dancing in the street out front of my house, but that’s ok!

Happy Hooping!

Hooping Photos

So you’re a full-fledged Hooper now and maybe you want to add a cute shot to your website, blog, facebook profile, Christmas card- what have you—Not every great hooping photo is a product of luck- here are some tricks to getting the best shot of you twirlin’ away.

1.    Find the Camera: Always know where your camera is- is it down low? Over your left shoulder? And play towards that camera. It’s your friend- your audience! You don’t have to always look at it- but make sure your arm isn’t in your face when you turn towards it.

2.    Shoot on Continuous: Have your photographer shoot on Action mode- and take multiple pictures in a row- this can help you find the best Hoop placement- Usually you want one where the hoop is centered and coming towards the camera- rather than half off the screen.
