I'm very new to hooping (only 2 months so far), but I've already converted at least a dozen people to hooping in that short time. I'm a costumer by hobby and wanted something interesting that I could incorporate into it. While I was at a convention in Atlanta, GA (Dragon Con) last September, I saw a girl with TWO Teal/Silver travel hoops and she was AMAZING to watch. When she was done, I asked if I could try her hoop, she was more than happy to let me (maybe it was the Slave Leia costume lol) and I was hooked after the first twirl around my waist. My husband bought me one for my birthday and the 1st Instructional DVD. It was the best birthday gift he has ever gotten me (and he agrees).
I was at a local convention the beginning of February (New York Comic Con) dressed as Slave Leia and decided to break out my hoop and show off. I was a hit and it was so much fun I hadn't realized I was hooping for almost 2 hours! At one point I stopped so that an Indy news channel could interview me.
My goals this year are to get my local friends together at least once a month and teach them the joys of hooping and a few tricks. I'd also love to become a certified Hoopnotica teacher and start classes in Brooklyn with a local dance studio.
I think the thing that makes my worldwide friends want to pick up a hoop and start... my abs! They saw what a simple Hula Hoop did for me and want the same results. I found that I carry myself with 10 times more confidence now than I did last year, I feel so sexy and I love how I look now. I hated exercise as a teenager, often skipping gym class to lose myself in the hundreds of books in the library.
Hoopnotica, I owe you! Hoop dance has given me confidence I never felt, taught me that exercise is fun again, and helped me connect with international friends.

Shoulder Hooping
Hooping on your shoulders uses the same movement as hooping on your chest except your arms are inside the hoop instead of outside. Keep that in your mind as you read these tips for helping smooth out the infamous shoulders...
1.Avoid Flailing! The pushes for Shoulder Hooping should move THROUGH your torso- not with your arms, so keep those puppies close to your body like wet noodles with your fingertips resting on the fronts of your thighs.
2.Open your Chest: We have a tendency to keep our shoulders rolled forward and forget about opening our chest for the front push- as the hoop comes around roll that shoulder back and this will create a smooth line for the hoop to roll across.
